Amy Speace and Sid Selvidge take a break from recording to share a laugh with producer Don Dixon
Sid Selvidge Recording for New Album
Don Dixon Set to Produce
from Archer Records: Posted January 18, 2010

2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Archer Records, and we can finally begin sharing some of the good news. We are pleased to announce that renowned Memphis bluesman Sid Selvidge is slated to enter our Music + Arts studio this month to begin work on his forthcoming LP. The yet-to-be-titled project will be Selvidge's third album with Archer Records, and will mark the eighth of a storied solo career.

Selvidge has a wealth of new material that he will draw from, and figures to have a few familiar faces along for the ride, as well as a couple surprises thrown into the mix. Among the musicians joining him will be his son and Amy LaVere guitarist, Steve Selvidge, along with friend and LaVere drummer Paul Taylor. Up-and-coming Nashville based folk singer Amy Speace will also perform a number of duets with Selvidge, including an unreleased original tune of hers, "Two."

Producing the album will be none other than singer, songwriter, musician, and sonic guru Don Dixon. "Don came recommended to me back when I was releasing Twice Told Tales on Nonesuch Records," Selvidge recalls, "and when we were discussing this record, his name was one that immediately came up." For those who don't recognize his name right away, Dixon began playing bass and recording in his mid-teens, co-founding Arrogance, a band that helped forge the North Carolina scene which birthed Let's Active and The dBs, among others. Since then, he has maintained a career as a solo artist, releasing nine albums, most recently 2008's The Nu-Look with his band The Jump Rabbits.

Dixon will probably be best known though for producing some of the great jangle pop albums of the early 80s, including R.E.M.'s legendary debut, Murmur, and its brilliant followup, Reckoning. His session and production credits also include work with such household names as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Joe Cocker, Counting Crows, The Smithereens, Tommy Keene, and Hootie and the Blowfish.
